Electronic Meter Reading Project

Covington Water District, in conjunction with Itron, Inc and National Meter and Automation, Inc, is upgrading the Electronic Meter Reading devices attached to over 5,000 meters.  This work will be done throughout the District from April 8th through June 15th

The upgrades are being done to meters that have electronic devices installed prior to 2005 as a warranty item so there is minimal expense to the District.  National Meter and Automation will have crews in the neighborhoods during daylight hours Monday through Saturday to complete this project as quickly as possible.

Please contact Customer Service at (253) 631-0565 should you have any questions or concerns regarding this project.

How to pay your water bill?

Billing

Depending on the area, the District bills customers on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.  The first billing you receive from the District will include a one time set-up charge. Street lights may also be included in your billing if street lights have been installed in your area. The purpose of this lighting is to generally enhance the nighttime visibility of neighborhood streets and intersections, rather than individual properties.

Balances from Previous Owners

Many new owners are not aware that, unlike other utilities, water charges are associated with the property rather than with the person who incurs the charge.  What this means is that property ownership is transferred along with any unpaid balance to the new owner.  The District does prepare a final bill for the previous owner.  However, if the previous owner does not pay the final bill, the responsibility lies with the new owner.

Water Leak Adjustment

If a water leak occurs on your side of the meter, you will be responsible for the repair as well as the associated water charge.  Customers who repair leaks in a timely manner may be eligible for a one-time-only partial adjustment to your water bill.  For more information, please call the District at 253-631-0565.

If you think you may qualify for such an adjustment contact customerservice@covingtonwater.com or call 253.631.0565 during normal business hours (8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday).
