How/where can I pay my water bill?

  • The District now offers you the option to review your account and/or pay your water bill on line.  Go to www.ubpayments.com/covingtonwater to sign up now.

  • You may mail your payment to P.O. Box 9109, Covington, WA  98042-0074. If you are paying from a disconnect notice (PINK Paper) - do NOT mail your payment.  The District may not receive your payment in time and may lock the meter.

  • Drop your payment off at the office located at 18631 SE 300th Pl., Covington. Office hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays). For your convenience, the District has a drop box located at the east end of the building for after-hours payments. All payments received after 4:30pm will be posted the following business day.

  • You may have the payment automatically deducted from your bank account.  Print out and complete the auto-pay application.  Mail or drop off the completed application (don't forget to sign the application) to the District office at 18631 SE 300th Pl., Covington, WA 98042.  If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the District by email or call 253.631.0565 during normal business hours (8:00am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday). Only bills produced AFTER the auto pay form has been received by the District may be paid thru this process.

  •  Acceptable forms of payment are check, money order, cash, Visa, MasterCard.  Cash payments should not be mailed or placed in the drop box, but made in person at the office.

How can I turn off the water in an emergency?

  • All homes should have a shut-off valve located in the home.  However, if your home does not have one, you may, in an emergency, turn the water off at the water meter, generally located at the front of the property near the road.  Tools necessary are a crescent wrench or  meter wrench available at your local hardware store.  Locate valve (silver dollar sized, brass colored with a raised bar in the center) place wrench over the raised bar and turn it to the right until the "eyes" on the valve are aligned. Repair leak(s) and reverse process to re-establish water service to the home.

How can I tell if I have a leak?

  • The District maintains the water lines up to and including the meter.  All plumbing after the meter is the customer's responsibility.  To check for a possible leak on your side of the meter turn all water off and check your meter for movement.  If it continues to move, you may have a leak.  For more detail see the section below titled: How to Read Your Water Meter

  • Once a leak has been fixed and you have verified that there is no movement on the meter, please call Customer Service at 253-631-0565 to see if you qualify for a one-time leak adjustment on your bill.
  • Should you find water in your meter box, please contact the district by email or call 253.631.0565.

How To Read Your Water Meter

Your water meter will look like one of these pictured below.

Reading your water meter is like reading the odometer of your car.

Read all of the numbers from left to right that appear under the words “Cubic Feet.”

The first digit on the right represents one cubic foot.  The second from the right represents 10 cubic feet.  The third from the right (usually a different color) represents 100 cubic feet (one ccf)748 gallons.  One revolution of the meter sweep hand equals one cubic foot, or 7.48 gallons.

On the first meter, notice the blue pin-wheel shaped low flow indicator to the left of the dial. If you see this moving when all of your water is turned off, then you have a slow leak.  On the second meter the little triangle in the center of the dial does the same thing.  The last meter pictured does not have a low flow indicator.

Reading your meter yourself can help you monitor your water use, check for suspected leaks, or experiment with efficient landscape watering.
