All homes should have
a shut-off valve located in the home. However, if your home does not have one,
you may, in an emergency, turn the water off at the water meter, generally
located at the front of the property near the road. Tools necessary are
a crescent wrench or meter wrench available at your local hardware
store. Locate valve (silver dollar sized, brass colored with a raised
bar in the center) place wrench over the raised bar and turn it to the right
until the "eyes" on the valve are aligned. Repair leak(s) and reverse process
to re-establish water service to the home.
-
Located on the face
of newer water meters is a small triangle (if there is no triangle on your
meter, observe the red needle for signs of movement). When all water is
off in the home, the triangle or needle should be stationary. If the
triangle is spinning, or the needle is moving, this indicates a leak on the
owners side of the meter. Should you find water in your meter box, please
contact
customerservice@covingtonwater.com
or call 253.631.0565.
-
