[ARCHIVED] National Emergency Preparedness Month

Water drop with ripples.

September is National Emergency Preparedness Month – Are You Ready?

Water is one of our most vital resources, especially during an emergency. This September, as we recognize National Emergency Preparedness Month, Covington Water District encourages all customers to take a few simple steps to ensure you and your family are ready if disaster strikes.

Store an Emergency Supply of Water – Keep at least one gallon per person, per day for a minimum of three days. Don’t forget pets! Visit How to Create an Emergency Water Supply from the CDC for tips on creating an emergency water supply.

Know Your Shutoff Valve – In the event of a major leak or natural disaster, knowing how to turn off your home’s water supply can prevent damage and conserve resources. Visit our Customer Assistance page to find helpful information such as how to locate and turn off water at your meter.

Stay InformedSign up for ALERT King County and follow local emergency management updates to receive timely information during an emergency.

Have a Plan – Emergencies can happen anytime. Make sure your family knows what to do and where to go if water or power service is disrupted. Find templates and information on how to create an individual or family plan at King County's Emergency Preparedness

Please see our Emergency Preparedness page to find more information on how to prepare for emergencies and what to do if your pipes freeze in the Winter.

Preparedness today can make all the difference tomorrow. By taking a few small steps, you’ll help keep your family safe and our community resilient.
